Since the orchestral flute "solos" are mostly just the leading melody in the given piece of music, it is necessary to study and above all, experience them within the whole musical context. Rhythm, harmony, intonation (in relation with harmony), colour, the breathing process, etc., they all reveal themselves with the praxis. The "solo" suddenly becomes music! Naturally, the opportunity to practice with an actual orchestra is rare and that is where these arrangements for a flute quartet will come in handy. I find playing the parts of other instruments particularly interesting, since it develops the colour pallete and enchances the overall expressivity of the player. Verdis Oper Nabucco gehört nicht zuletzt wegen ihrer impliziten politischen Bedeutung zu seinen erfolgreichsten. Insbesondere der Chor "Va pensiero" avancierte zum Volkslied, ja fast zur Nationalhymne des unter Risorgimento leidenden italienischen Volkes. Verdi verstand es immer wieder, den Melodienreichtum seiner Opern in den jeweiligen Ouvertüren konzentriert zu fassen. Dies garantiert auch bei der vorliegenden Bearbeitung der Nabucco-Ouvertüre ein Höchstmaß an Spielspaß für alle Beteiligten. Während die 1. Flöte ad libitum das Piccolo verwenden kann, um dem Arrangement zusätzlichen "Pfiff" zu verleihen, kann die 4. Flöte auch mit einer Altflöte in G besetzt werden, um dem Satz mehr Volumen zu geben.
Das bewegende Lied Tears in Heaven wurde für den Film Rush von 1991 geschrieben; Eric Clapton dachte beim Komponieren an seinen verstorbenen viereinhalbjährigen Sohn. Das Lied wurde weltweit zu einem riesigen Hit und inspirierte nun Roland Kernen zu einer Bearbeitung für Flötenensemble. Wunderschön und bewegend!
