Neben Robert Schumanns gleichnamigem Opus 73 gehören die Fantasiestücke des dänischen Komponisten Niels Wilhelm Gade zum unverzichtbaren Repertoire aller Klarinettisten. Gade, der lange in Leipzig gelebt hatte und eng mit Schumann befreundet war, leistete 1864 mit diesem tiefromantischen „Schwesterwerk“ einen wichtigen Beitrag, um die Klarinette als kammermusikalisches Soloinstrument zu etablieren. Die vier Stücke der Sammlung können durchaus einzeln aufgeführt werden und bieten sich ideal für den Unterricht an. Herausgeber und Klarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer zog neben der deutschen und dänischen Erstausgabe auch das Autograph in Kopenhagen zu Rate und konnte so etliche Unstimmigkeiten älterer Ausgaben beseitigen.

Carl Maria von Weber schrieb das vorliegende Konzert im Jahr 1811 für den Münchner Fagottisten Georg Friedrich Brandt. Das Datum der Uraufführung ist nicht bekannt, belegt ist jedoch eine Aufführung in Prag am 19. Februar 1813 durch Brandt, dem das Werk auch gewidmet ist. Webers Fagottkonzert gehört zusammen mit Mozarts B-dur-Konzert KV 191 (186e) zu den beliebtesten und meistgespielten Solokonzerten für das tiefe Holzblasinstrument. Dessen Qualitäten stellt Weber in jedem Satz in anderer Form unter Beweis, wie schon gleich die Hauptthemen zeigen: der Kopfsatz wird durch ein rhythmisch markantes Thema dominiert, im kleiner besetzten Adagio stehen kantable Passagen im Vordergrund und im abschließenden Rondo. Allegro darf der Solist sein Können von Anfang an durch große Intervallsprünge und rasche Spielfiguren unter Beweis stellen.

Bach hatte eine Vorliebe für Solowerke für diejenigen Instrumente, die normalerweise mit Klavierbegleitung versehen werden. So ist es nur konsequent, wenn er neben der Violine und dem Cello auch die Flöte mit der für ihn typischen Melodiegestaltung bedenkt. Durch geschickten Einsatz von Akkordbrechungen gelingt ihm sogar die Illusion von Mehrstimmigkeit. Dabei wird deutlich: Bachs gesangliche Kantilenen überzeugen auch ohne Unterstützung durch begleitende Akkorde eines Tasteninstruments. Ein Höhepunkt der Flötenliteratur!

50 Melodic Studies by Demersseman, Op. 4 Volume 1, edited by the French flautist and composer Marcel Moyse (1889-1984), contains a set of 25 studies out of 50 for beginner flautists, initially written by Jules Demersseman (1833-1866), a French flautist. Considered as a maestro, Marcel Moyse has composed many Flute methods and exercise books also published by Alphonse Leduc, such as ''Mécanisme-Chromatisme'' (1927) and ''De la Sonorité'' (1934). His methods are widely used and recognised worldwide.

Carl Joachim Andersen (1847-1909) was one of the leading Danish flautists of his time and a founding member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He wrote eight volumes of études for flute, with which he sought to promote not only the technical but also the musical development of students. The Op. 15 series contains 24 études, one in every major and minor key arranged in relative major-minor pairs around the circle of fifths.
